The story of Van Cleef & Arpels begins as most fairy tales end, with a heaven sent wedding between Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef. Estelle is the daughter of a precious stone wholesaler and the sister of expert gemologists. Alfred is the son of a diamond merchant from Amsterdam. This was in 1896. Since then Van Cleef & Arpels have shown exceptional craftsmanship with their fine watches and jewellers.
Fragrances was added to the house of Van Cleef & Arpels in 1976 when Jaques Arpels create a new fragrance. For him, this was the way to invent another expression of admiration for the beauty and charm of women, offering an adornment that is invisible but real…this is how First was born, the jeweller’s fragrance inaugurating a whole world of Van Cleef & Arpels perfumes in which Féerie and Tsar,for men, now reign supreme.
