As some of you already know, P & I recently took a 10 day holiday together to Portugal to relax, have a break, have fun, invest in some quality time together – you know, the usual! One of both our biggest bug bears ever about a holiday is applying sun cream. No, seriously. I know it is only a 5 minute job but some days I would waste over an hour faffing or avoiding the task just because it seemed such a massive effort – in fact there was one day that P decided we weren’t going out because he couldn’t be bothered that much to put suncream on.
I hate it – it’ll come as no surprise that I am not one of these girls who preen & pamper their whole weekend long – I have no idea how girls in such towns as Essex can be bothered to spend so much time on themselves – don’t get me wrong I have several, in fact P would state an over necessary amount, of body moisturiser in my cupboard, anti cellulite treatments, hand creams, face creams, you name it and I’ll probably have it. The times that I use them, however, isn’t quite so high in numbers – in fact it is probably on a special occassion or when I’m feeling particularly energetic that they are dusted off…..and that is only after faffing around for an hour after the shower, allowing myself to cool down etc, etc……anyway, you get the picture.
I bet you’re wondering why I’m telling you all this ? Well on this very same holiday I decided to try a new all singing, all dancing, promises you the world, suncream which I actually convinced myself would produce fireworks when I opened the box. It didn’t (how disappointing?) but it is very, very good and I would like to tell you why – so sit back, relax, put your feet up, no don’t go to sleep, but enjoy reading what I write and transport yourself onto a secluded beach far, far away.
Riemann P20 – What is it ?
The official stuff :
P20 provides 10 hours protection from one just application and is very water resistant even after swimming frequently throughout the day. Its clear, lightweight consistency ensures a silky and even coverage. Active 15 minutes after application, it’s quickly absorbed, non sticky and leaves no white marks.
The Application :
The first thing you’ll notice is that it isn’t the usual white suncream but more of an oil type liquid – again I was dubious about how this wouldn’t be a sticky liquid that took hours to absorb. But once again my doubts were proven wrong after the liquid soaking in after a matter of minutes and the protection working after 15 minutes – which is about how long a whole body application takes so it isn’t like you need to hang around for long! Don’t be afraid of the slightly yellow liquid that comes out the bottle when you first open it – it soon soaks in and you can’t see it on your skin
If you’ve read some of my previous blogs then you may have spotted that I suffer from vitiligo, which means I burn very easily and therefore I need something that will protect me from this. I really struggled to understand how I could consider my daily application of sun protection done with you one layer for up to 10 hours. It couldn’t work…..could it?? Even after swimming, snorkelling, getting in the sea? The simple answer is yes. Don’t ask me how (google will help you with that) but it does. As long as you don’t rub yourself down after swimming but rather pat yourself dry then you can’t really go wrong. It is also really simple and easy to apply and I liked the fact that it didn’t leave a sticky residue on me once I had put it on. It can even be used on kids and it means you can fall asleep in the sun without worrying about yourself or them burning once they have got out of the pool for the 10th time – I really cannot recommend this product enough.
I understand that it won’t be for everyone and yes I acknowledge that it is a little more expensive than the average sun cream (Perfume-Click £17.70) but over a 10 day holiday it works out at 1.70 / day, per couple, or 85p each, and saves a lot of time and procrastinating if you’re anything like me and that is priceless. Another thing to take into consideration is that this sun protection has a high alcohol content so if you apply it where the skin has an open wound then it will sting, as most things do when the skin is raw. It may also make sensitive areas such as eyes and lips feel a bit dry after a few days so they may require an extra bit of moisturising but I don’t think that can be considered as a negative, can it? The only other thing is that it doesn’t carry the beloved coconut scent that other sun lotions do – but in my opinion it is a price worth paying for all the boxes that it does tick. I have given this section the title of ‘negatives’ – please note that I don’t consider any of these points as a negative as I certainly wouldn’t use them as a reason not to buy this product!
Riemann is fabulous. Every household should have one – I’ve kept the biggest benefit until last – the secret weapon, the creme de la creme…..not only does it protect you from the sun, it also allows gradual tanning and I can hand on heart say that my tan has been better after this holiday than it has ever been before. Take a look for yourself!
Sadly I’ve got to bring you back to the world of reality now – if you’re lucky enough to be going on holiday soon then I urge you to get some of this – I wouldn’t just tell you it was good if I didn’t think so, you can read some of my other reviews to see that, but I can’t lie. This product needs a gold medal and I for one will be using nothing else after having found this little beauty….in fact, I may just go and stock up now!
Enjoy the rest of your week, until next time lots of love and sticky kisses
PS It comes in different SPF’s and forms too – your options are endless!
