Following the success of my blog from last week, and the fact that I only covered 13 letters, I thought I would spend today taking you to the end of the alphabet, after which you’ll be all racing to the nearest beauty store or of course flocking to Perfume Click to revamp and purge your skincare collection……ahem……let me know if I should warn Boots that there is going to be a flock of people descending on them.
So here you go – N – Z of getting super soft, shiny skin :
N – Nordic beauty
Having taken over our TV screens with shows such as Borgen and The Killing, the next big thing is Scandi skincare. We love organic swedish brand Estelle & Thild, especially the Lily Detox Facial Mask, £35 and Rose Otto Facial Oil, £45.
O – Overnight sensations
Pop on Shiseido The Skincare Night Moisture Recharge, £31.90 and wake up to smoother, more supple skin in the morning. Skin is more vulnerable to water loss during the night, which the mask tackles with a cocktail of hydrators. Also impressive is Decleor Aromessence Baume Excellence Regenerating Night Balm, £39.30 which works magic on tired complexions.
P – Probiotics
One of the ingredients of the moment, probiotics, have an anti-inflmmatory effect, helping to rebalance the skin’s own defences and so keep it looking younger for longer. New British range Aurelia uses probiotic technology plus botanicals. Its day and night creams and facial oils are fabulous.
Q – Queen Bee
R – Red in the Face
If you flush frequently, or have mild rosacea, try SkinCeuticals Redness Neutralizer, £70. In clinical trials, twice daily use saw redness reduced by 30% in 12 weeks.
S- Super Serums
I think the best in class for repair and protection are the iconic Guinot Liftosome Firming Face Serum, £32.70,
T – Ten Minute Treatment
When time is tight, pop on hydrating firming Guinot Masque Essentiel Nutrition Confort Instant Radiance Moisturizing Mask, £16.40. It gives skin a visible lift, dewy freshness and radiance.
U – Uneven Skintone
According to a study from Eucerin, women with patchy pigmentation and brown spots can look up to 11 years older than their real age. In a recently published study, Dr Nick Lowe benchmarked his creams against Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Results were similar, though at far less cost. Look out for his Super Light Skin Tone Perfector Cream, £18.99.
V – Vitamin A
Vitamin A derivatives called retinoids are still the dermatologists’ favourite for line reduction, collagen boosting and skin smoothing. Look out for retinol and close relative retinyl palmitate on labels of over-the-counter creams.
W – WOW Facials
Some therapists have magic hands, such as Emma Hardie’s hour long Natural Lift and Sculpting Facial which combines a thorough cleanse and buffing plus a slow massage technique. She also runs 30min one-to-ones, with a mini facial and consultation, teaching her skin-lifting techniques.
X – X-tra Help
Primers are your secret weapon for flawless looking skin – and help make-up go on more smoothly. Try
Y – Yoga
Meditation, massage and any other stress-busting techniques that work for you…..High levels of stress have been shown to slow down skin repair, which then speeds up signs of ageing.
Z – Zinc
If you have botox – listen up. According to US Plastic Surgeon Dr Charles Soparkar, if there’s inadequate zinc in your tissues the treatment will have lesser effect. His Zytaze supplement, containing zinc and the enzyme phytase, has been shown in study to increase the length of time the injections last by nearly 30%, when taken for four days before and on the the day of the injections.
So there we have it – now you have zero excuse to not make the effort to have flawless, youthful, radiant looking skin – and don’t think that this guide is purely restricted to ladies – you gents are welcome to take a tip or two as well!! Let me know if you try any of the points or find any of them in particular interesting!
Lots of love and smooth shiny strokes and cuddles
