Mäurer & Wirtz Aftershave & Men's Fragrance

Mäurer & Wirtz was founded in 1845 by Michael Mäurer and stepson Andreas Wirtz. Their first business venture was in Aachen, Germany, where they produced soaps and detergents. Mäurer & Wirtz has expanded since the 19th century and the company is now more focused on fragrance. 4711 is by far the most popular of scent in their range. 4711 is a classic citric cologne originally created in the late 1700's. 4711 is still made using the original recipe and bottle design.

After all these years the business is still partly family owned which is quite a feat. In 2014 the 4711 cologne celebrated its 222nd birthday, only a couple of years before the 4711 Acqua Colonia (2009) unisex collection was launched with over 10 different ingredient combinations in its range. Legend has it that the original nose behind 4711, a merchant named Wilhelm Mülhens was gifted a bottle of the miracle water as a wedding gift. This perfumed water was gifted to him by a Carthusian monk and would later become the 4711 cologne as we know it. 4711's flagship store, situated on Glockenglasse, is a popular tourist attraction for fragrance enthusiasts. The aromatic men's fragrance contains citrus accents of orange oil and lemon.
Another steady favourite is the original Tabac fragrance that hit the markets in 1955. In fact, it is so popular that the fragrance itself has its own Wikipedia page. They have now expanded the Tabac range to include Tabac Eau de Toilette's, Eau de Cologne's, shaving soap, aftershave and deodorant.

With over 170 years of experience Mäurer & Wirtz have come a long way, but they are nowhere near finished. The company continues to grow by acquiring different prestige brands such as Strellson, Baldessarini and many more to come.
