Vespa Aftershave & Men's Fragrance

The Vespa is a moped style vehicle which was first introduced by Italian company Piaggio after World War II. Aircraft manufacturers during the war, the Piaggio family saw a demand for a cheap and swift mode of transport and developed first drafts for a design of a small motor scooter. The Vespa's wasp-like shape gave the vehicle its name and the first models were sold in 1946.

The rise of the Italian scooter was boosted in the 50s through the involvement of Hollywood. Not only was the 1951 model used in William Wyler's romantic classic “Roman Holiday” (1953) with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, but stars like Marlon Brando and Charlton Heston were also famously known to use the scooter to drive around set. Vespa sales rose steadily during this time and Vespa fan clubs were founded all over the world. In the 60s the Vespa was especially popular in Great Britain, were followers of the Mod culture made the vehicle their staple accessory. While the company struggled in the 80s and 90s, it recently recovered through renewed interest in the cult classic by collectors and trendsetters alike. The most popular Vespa models are the Vespa 125 Primavera, the Vespa Rally 180 which was especially designed for racing competitions and hugely successful throughout the 70s and the Vespa 509 Special. Fans can still purchase technically revamped versions of the most iconic models today.

Piaggio has released a number of special edition Vespas, including a Ferrari special edition celebrating the Italian racing car manufacturer's title win at the Formula 1 world championships in 2000, a Giorgio Armani edition of the Vespa 946 as well as the Vespa 400, a small car launched in 1957. Famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali furthermore decorated the Vespa of a friend of his. All special editions have been part of exhibitions at world famous sites such as the MOMA and Guggenheim in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris and are now part of a permanent exhibition at the Piaggio museum near Pisa.

With the rising interest in the brand, Piaggio started to release Vespa-themed merchandise, including a Vespa fragrance collection for men and women. Vespa for Him (2014) is presented in a vintage style box that plays on the nostalgia connected to the cult vehicle. The woody and aromatic perfume for men was created by Juliette Karagueuzoglou and includes notes of lavender, lemon, violet, pineapple and vetiver. One year later, the follow-up scent Vespa Sensazione (2015) was released. The summer fragrance combines fruity accords of rhubarb, apple, mandarin and fig with aromatic black tea, lavender, patchouli and vanilla. Vespa eau de toilette is available in 30ml and 50ml bottles.
