Max Azria was born in Tunisia, was trained in France and later relocated to the USA. In 1989 he founded BCBGMAXAZRIA in Los Angeles, sometimes written as just BCBG Max Azria. BCBG is an abbreviation of the French phrase “Bon Chic, Bon Genre” - meaning "Good Stock, Good Family."
The company has since grown into a multinational enterprise at the forefront of American design. Today more than 20 brands are owned by the BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP which sells to almost 600 retail boutiques worldwide. Max Azria works as head designer, chairman and chief executive officer of the BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, employing his wife Lubov Azria as Creative director of the company. Their collections are inspired by and aimed at the modern woman and have been praised for their high quality at competitive price rates. After the acquisition of French couture house Hervé Léger by the BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, Azria wrote history by presenting three collections of major labels all owned by the BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP at New York Fashion Week in 2008: Max Azria, BCBGMAXAZRIA and Hervé Léger. His collections shape American fashion and are popular with many celebrities. Famous fans of the brand are stars include Beyonce Knowles, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Victoria Beckham, Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie.
Max Azria released the first fragrance under his name in 2001. BCBG Max Azria fragrances are created in collaboration with perfumers Sarah Horowitz and Stephen Nilsen. Their catalogue of female fragrances consists amongst others of the BCBGirls collection including the floral-fruity fragrance Metro (2011), the floral-green Nature (2001), the oriental floral Sexy (2001) and the woody musk scent Star (2001). Their BCBGMAXAZRIA collection includes fragrances like the floral-fruity signature scent Max Azria for women (2011), the floral-fruity Bon Chic (2012) and the oriental floral Bon Genre (2013).
