L'Artisan Parfumeur Perfume & Women's Fragrance

L'Artisan Parfumeur is a French perfume house famous for their niche fragrances. It was founded in Paris by Jean Laporte in 1976. Laporte trained as a chemist and started off his career in the perfume world by making a banana scent for a friend. He later developed fragrances based on grapefruit and vanilla, gaining a reputation as “L’Artisan Parfumeur”, the craftsman of fragrance. This became the name of the brand that gained mass popularity and became a pioneer in the niche perfume industry.

Fragrances created by L'Artisan Parfumeur are mainly soriflores, meaning a fragrance based on the scent of a single flower; in the last 40 years the brand has led the way in new exciting fragrant possibilities made with unexpected and original combinations.

“Mûre et Musc” was one of the first fragrances released by L'Artisan Parfumeur and developed by Jean Lapore in 1978. Considered the brand’s most iconic scent, this fruity fragrance was made with wild blackberry, a very unusual perfume ingredient at the time. In the same year Lapore launched “L’Eau d’Ambre”, an oriental fragrance inspired by tales from “Arabian Nights”. This scent contains classic amber – one of the most distinctive notes of L'Artisan Parfumeur. Another innovative creation of the brand was the famous house fragrance shaped as an Amber Ball, made of crystals of herbal origins. It was launched for the first time in 1977 and has been a best seller since then, with an elegant combination of amber, vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean, benzoin and incense.

After the enormous success Jean Laporte moved on to different projects, creating the house of Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier in 1988, based on French scents from the 17th century. L'Artisan Parfumeur continued to be successful with a collection of over 70 extraordinary perfumes, candles and house scents.

In 1994 the brand produced the groundbreaking “Premier Figuier”, the first-ever- fragrance made with fig. Developed by Olivia Giacobetti, this scent introduces a new world of perfumes ingredients, with a unique blening of unconventional notes of fig, fig trees and almond milk.

Among other successful scents by L’Artisan Parfumeur there are the floral and dreamy “Les Chasse Aux Papillons” (1999) and the exotic “Timbuktu” (2004) inspired by travelling through African landscapes.
