Bvlgari is an esteemed Italian fashion house that has been around for more than 130 years. It was created by Sotirios Voulgaris in 1884. The unusual name derives from the founder's last name and uses the Latin letter for "U".
Sotirio Voulgaris was originally from Greece, where he was trained as a goldsmith. He left his home town in 1877 and found his way to Corfu, and then later to Naples, before he ended up in Rome where he would found Bvlgari a few years after arriving.
Bvlgari opened their flagship store in 1905 in Via dei Condotti and quickly became a success story. The first international stores were opened in 1970 in New York, Paris, Geneva and Monte Carlo. Bvlgari have had their own showroom in the Pierre Hotel in New York City for many years, and now own almost 300 shops and showrooms worldwide.
Bvlgari was originally famous for their fabulous jewellery, but is today a diversified luxury brand that manufactures and markets several product lines including watches, fragrances, accessories and even hotels.
The first Bvlgari perfume was launched in 1992: a unisex scent called Eau Parfumée au Vert. This fragrance was followed by countless others and today Bvlgari are known for their excellent scents.
